As part of our 120-year history, we are highlighting the many years dedicated to using 100% recycled paperboard.
Contrary to public perception, recycled paperboard was first manufactured in the 1860s and 1870s. One of the first brands to take advantage of this new product was an American classic, Quaker Oats Oatmeal, which was packaged in 100% recycled paperboard.
The Boy Scouts collected paper during WWI and had paper drives many years to make money for their scout troops. Yazoo has used recycled paperboard well over 100 years. 100% recycled paperboard was used for our twine assortment boxes as early as 1908. In 1962, when Yazoo started to manufacture paper tubes, 100% recycled paperboard was used.
Today, Yazoo Mills uses over 54 million pounds of recycled paper yearly. Five trailer loads roll into Yazoo’s plant EVERY DAY each loaded with 22 tons of recycled paperboard. We continue to recycle all waste generated during our manufacturing process which includes shredding, bailing, and shipping to a recycle paper mill and then we receive the recycled paperboard back to manufacture our products.
