Despite the lingering July heat, the sun was shining and spirits were high for our annual Yazoo Mills Company Safety Picnic on Thursday, July 10th! Team members gathered for a well-deserved break, enjoying a mouthwatering catered lunch from Hughes Meats, complete with cold drinks, sweet desserts, and plenty of summer sunshine. This picnic has become a cherished tradition in Yazoo’s 120+ year history—a time to come together, celebrate our shared success, and kick off the summer season with gratitude and energy. It’s about more than just food and fun (though there’s plenty of that!)—it’s about strengthening the bonds that make our company truly special.
Prioritizing Safety—And Recognizing Progress
This year’s event highlighted some major safety milestones across the company. We proudly recognized 32 employees who completed OSHA 10 General Industry Training and 30 employees who finished Industrial Ergonomics Training. Thanks to our team’s continued focus on safe work practices, we’ve achieved impressive results—our DART Rate has been reduced by 45%, Severity Rate by 41%, and DART Time Rate by 32%. Most notably, injury costs have decreased by 85% over the past three years, indicating fewer incidents and lower severity. These numbers reflect the incredible efforts of our team, and we’re excited to keep raising the bar together.
Gifts, Giveaways & Good Times
Of course, no picnic is complete without some extra fun. This year’s festivities included a raffle packed with great prizes and gift cards, plus custom Yazoo safety t-shirts. A huge thank you goes out to every employee for your hard work, reliability, and commitment to excellence. You are the heart of Yazoo Mills—and this celebration is just one way we show our appreciation. Here’s to a safe, productive, and enjoyable summer ahead!
