Celebrating 40 Years at Yazoo Mills

Have you ever found yourself looking back on your past, reminiscing on certain memories and realizing how fast time has really gone over the years?  Try thinking back to 40 years ago and where you were at that point in your life.

40 years ago, Sharon Smith, Yazoo Mills’ Sales Manager, started her first job at Yazoo.  She was 18 years old and has just finished her first year of working towards her Associate’s degree as a Medical Secretary at Yor College and needed a summer job.  Her parents were neighbors with Earl Noel, Jr. (Yazoo’s owner) and his wife Charm and Sharon’s Dad knew that Yazoo was hiring.  Sharon spoke with Earl and the next thing she knew, she was working in the Recut Department as a Packer at Yazoo’s manufacturing plant that was on Chestnut Street in Hanover, PA in May of 1975.

After the summer came to an end, Sharon decided to forego college.  She liked working at Yazoo and wanted to make a career with the company.  She began working in the office and did all of the general office duties (answering phones, taking orders, shipping/receiving, etc.) except quoting and accounting.  Fast forward to 40 years later, Sharon has seen the company evolve into the largest family-owned paper tube and core business in the United States, traveled to many different states for trade shows, and has been the Sales Manager for over 15 years.

Sharon’s favorite part about being at Yazoo is working with the customers and products, as well as satisfying our customers and finding the paper tubes or cores that will suit their needs perfectly.  Aside from working, Sharon likes to spend her time with family and friends, and looks forward to traveling more in the future with her friends.

Thank you, Sharon, for putting in 40 years of hard work at Yazoo.  We greatly appreciate all that you do for the company.  Here’s to 40 more!
