Cancer. We’ve all heard the word more times than we would like and most people know at least one person who is a going through treatments, is a survivor, or lost their battle to it. For quite some time now, the Hanover Area YMCA has been making strides to help those who have gone through the disease and remember those who have lost their fight by hosting their half-marathon with proceeds benefiting LIVESTRONG. Yazoo Mills was and has been a proud Silver Sponsor of the event, helping it become so successful over the years.
The LIVESTRONG program at the YMCA is “a free 12 week, research-based program supporting cancer survivors in regaining their physical, emotional and spiritual strength and is conducted in a small group environment that includes individualized attention for each participant.” The YMCA continues to say “adult survivors are eligible to join the program during all stages of recovery. LVIESTRONG at the YMCA also serves and embraces the families and caregivers that have been affected by the disease by providing a free family membership throughout the course of the program.”
The 13.1 half marathon, held on Sunday, October 1st, was a winding loop through the beautiful town of Hanover, Pennsylvania. Survivor dedication pennants were proudly displayed as over 100+ runner’s feet pounded the pavement in honor and remembrance of those who have battled with cancer. In addition to the half marathon, the Hanover YMCA also held a 1 mile “fun run” for kids to participate in.
