In 2011, five New Oxford High School students sustained fatal injuries from a car crash. New Oxford, as well as surrounding communities, felt the heartache and grief as their families lost their loved ones. The families affected by this tragedy along with great community support, created a non-profit organization in 2012 to honor their children and the sport they all
loved the most; soccer.
Since the start of the 5 Angels Memorial Soccer Tournament, the non-profit has raised over $16,000 which in part benefits the New Oxford HS Soccer program, given out nine college scholarships,
and has also given the Hanover Soccer Club Youth Program $4,000 along with two sets of goal posts. The two-day 5th annual tournament, which was held this past weekend, was played at UTZ Soccer Fields in Hanover with a 16-team bracket. Yazoo Mills has proudly donated to this tournament for the last three years and is thrilled to see the out-pour of community support as well as ensuring that kids who want to play soccer, will be able to play with donations from the tournament.
