You’ve heard the saying “it’s the little things in life,” right? At Yazoo, we believe that the little things become big things and we strive to give back to our community year after year. Being able to support local charities and organizations is extremely imperative to Yazoo, especially when it can have a positive impact on young lives. The Hanover YMCA’s Kids Come First Campaign
was started to help build a stronger community and brighter future for our youth and ever since then, they have made a huge impact on so many lives.
The Hanover Area YMCA serves over 14,000 children, adults and families in the greater Hanover area. In 2016, Yazoo was one of the 442 donors who helped the Hanover and Littlestown YMCA’s assist 1,812 people with scholarships and are expecting that level to increase tremendously in 2017.
Their mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Tara Kauffman, Financial Development Director, says “We strive to ensure that everyone is able to participate in programs and memberships regardless of family income. In order to achieve this, we provide need-based scholarships made possibly by generous donors, such as Yazoo Mills, to our Kids Come First Campaign.” She continues to say “Yazoo Mills has ensured that countless children in our community are able to take swimming lessons, attend preschool, play sports, participate in gymnastics, and attend summer camp. Our YMCA is blessed to have a true community partner such as Yazoo Mills, who has been a Platinum Level donor to Kids Come First since 2010!
It has been two years since Olivia’s House, a grief and loss center for children, opened their doors and hearts to the town of Hanover, PA. Since that time, they have served over 50 families and a total of 62 children through their “Hearts Can Heal” program. As a non-profit organization, they are not able to do all that they do without the support of many generous donors. Yazoo Mills will become a Mortgage Angel for the second time, donating $1,500 to Olivia’s House in Hanover for the month of November 2016.
The Hanover location is located at 101 Baltimore Street and is a 15-room facility which serves to meet children’s grief and loss needs in the greater Hanover community. Olivia’s
House offers a variety of no-cost programs and services to meet the many needs of grieving families such as Pre-Death Support, Peer Support Programs, WINGS – Social Support, Lending Library, Educational Support, Professional Adjunct Services, and Pet Loss Services.
Our donation and support will play an integral role in helping sustain central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland’s premier grief and loss center for children.

At Yazoo, we continue to proudly support local charities and organizations in the communities where we all live and work. Contributing to organizations that are kid-oriented is a passion of Yazoo’s because we understand and recognize the importance of helping provide a future as well as learning resources for today’s generation.
This year, Yazoo donated $5,000 to TrueNorth Wellness Services’ Amazing Kids Club program. The Amazing Kids Club is a year-round, on-site therapeutic program for children and
adolescents from 2 to 21 years of age with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder. The program focuses on developing communication, socialization, and play skills in a less intense environment than one-on-one strategies. Additionally, the program is designed as either a stand-alone program or a supplement to other forms of treatment. Garrett Trout, CEO of TrueNorth Wellness Services, says “The program is a combination of behavioral and relationship therapy strategies and our Master’s Level clinicians design treatment plans to meet the developmental needs of each individual. Family involvement and service coordination are key components of our programs. We offer Pre-School and After School sessions,as well as an eleven-week specialized therapeutic summer day program.
The Amazing Kids Club program is currently in its 13th year and has grown substantially from serving 32 children during the first year to over 200 today. The opening of the new facility will eliminate the need for their current wait list by bringing the enrollment to over 300 children which will allow TrueNorth to continue meeting the growing need within the community.
Trout continues to say, “Yazoo Mills, Inc.’s donation to the Capital Campaign will not only allow us to serve more children in our Autism program, it will also allow us to expand mental health and substance abuse services to individuals in York and Adams Counties. Thanks again for your generous contribution.”
For over 30 years, Hanover Hospital has been committed to providing physical therapy services for children with special needs. In 1993, Hanover Hospital added an outpatient therapy practice, and was officially designated as Pediatric Specialty Therapy Services.
Each year, Hanover Hospital holds their annual golf tournament with the proceeds going towards a certain program within the hospital. This year, the tournament is called “Tee Time
for our Kids” which will benefit the Pediatric Specialty Therapy.
“As a need for pediatric therapy has increased, the program has outgrown its basement space at Cherry Tree. This summer, the program will be moving from its current Cherry Tree location to the York Street Medical Center. In order to provide the services and accommodate the growing patient base, a renovation to the existing York Street Rehab location is needed. The renovation project has an expected cost of 1.2 million dollars.” the company’s website said.
Yazoo Mills has been a loyal contributor to numerous Hanover Hospital events for many years and will be a Bronze Sponsor ($3,000) for this year’s golf tournament. We are more than
glad to donate to such a great cause and understand the impact our donation will have on the services provided to special needs children in our community.
Yazoo Mills has been an active contributor to all things when it comes to the New Oxford and Hanover communities. Recently, Yazoo donated $1,000 to the Hanover Area YMCA So Much More Capital Campaign 2016 for the South Hanover YMCA.
The Hanover Area YMCA has been serving as a leading non-profit organization in the Hanover community for over 47 years. During this time, the YMCA has been blessed with many opportunities to grow within the continually expanding Hanover geography. As the residential neighborhoods in South Hanover continue to see exponential growth and migration to this part of Hanover, there is a vital need for a larger YMCA in this area.
The Capital Campaign 2016 is designed to raise funds for the new South Hanover YMCA. This facility will provide more opportunity for residents and children to participate in health and wellness activities. The new gym will have two indoor multi-sports turf fields, expanded 24-hour fitness center, expanded child care center, new full size gymnasium, three outdoor athletic fields, and a walking trail. Not only will the new facility bring more families together to participate in activities, but it will also bring in more memberships, more programs, more revenue, and will be more accessible with 15 acres of land. Yazoo Mills is proud to support such a great campaign where this dynamic new facility will be important in the support of the growing Hanover community.
We are proud to have our business located in the wonderful town of New Oxford, Pennsylvania for the past 35 years. There is plenty of history behind our quaint little town and our community is working hard to help preserve some of the historical buildings so the generations to come can learn about the important past of New Oxford.
Located on a roughly 1-acre property in New Oxford, sits the borough’s 102-year-old train station, complete with a red caboose, an old mail car and even a still-operating CSX rail line. This railroad station has produced many stories that have been passed down over the years through previous employees and the large amount of volunteers. Pieces of the train station’s history are what’s important to the community members and volunteers. In order to ensure that the station is around for future generations means buying the property it sits on from its current owner, CSX. The downfall is, it’s going to cost $40,000 to purchase.
The New Oxford Area Historical Society created the All Aboard! campaign in June of 2014. The society, in conjunction with the Borough of New Oxford, has undertaken a community campaign to raise funds to purchase the Borough’s beloved history railroad property.
Yazoo Mills has been a huge supporter of many fundraising events in New Oxford for a very long time. We recognize how important the historic train station is to the community, which is why we donated $1,000 to the All Aboard! campaign. With our contribution, as well as many other local companies, the campaign is nearing close to their goal of $40,000. We are proud to support the campaign and excited to watch them continue to preserve the train station.
