At some point in your life, you have more than likely wrapped a present, painted a room, boxed up a package you were sent to a relative across the world, or had to fix a hole in a camping tent.  So, what do all of these actions have in common?  Tape, of course! Each one of those actions needs tape of some sort to complete.  Whether that is packaging tape, painter’s tape, duct tape, or just regular transparent tape.

In 1845, surgeon, Dr. Horace Day, invented tape for the first time.  His type of “tape” was used as bandages for his patients.  In 1925, Richard Drew invented masking tape to help solve the problem of paint bleeding through while shops were applying paint to new vehicles.  In 1942, duct tape was invented during World War II as American soldiers needed a strong and versatile adhesive for everything from repairing broken windows to making temporary bandages.

As you can see, the tape industry has evolved tremendously since its beginning.  Now, there are essentially endless options for consumers to choose from.  The entertainment industry is hugely known for using all types of tape.  Artists rely on their crew to use tape to temporarily hold light fixtures, hold down wire and cable path cords, marking and label equipment, and use caution tape to mark off areas that should be avoided.  Tape has evolved so much that a wide variety of colors are used to differentiate certain actions, glow-in-the-dark options are available to mark the stage so artists know where to go during each set as well as mark dark areas backstage.  Tape, at some point, is used in every single industry from medical, arts, sports, packaging, automobiles – you name it.  But it takes a high-quality paper core to ensure that it can hold the material that is being converted onto that.  Because without a core, companies wouldn’t be able to convert their material, leaving us tape-less.

That’s where Yazoo comes into play.  We’re recognized as the supplier of choice among all tape companies across the nation.  Tape manufacturers have strict guidelines and rely on Yazoo to meet their specifications.  Our ability to hold a tight tolerance remains very consistent, allowing companies to gang cores together on their slitters which lets them be more efficient with their runs.  At Yazoo, we are proudly proving every day that our products exceed expectations, no matter what industry you’re in.  We deliver innovative solutions to help support your customer’s needs.  See what Yazoo Mills can do for you and your business.

Textiles – they are all around us.  Maybe you’ve never heard that specific term being used but the clothing you are currently wearing, the canopy you sit under while enjoying a nice dinner outside by the river, the curtains hanging in your living room, the cloth interior seats in your car, protective clothing… they are all a part of the textile industry.

So, what exactly is it?  A textile is a flexible material consisting of a network of natural or artificial fibers, weaved or knitted together.  Textiles are made from many materials including animal, plant, mineral and synthetic – all of which are made in various strengths and degrees of durability, depending on the industry the material is serving.  For example, fabric is a huge part of our lives and without it, we wouldn’t have our basic, necessary items that we depend on day in and day out.

The extensive use of paper cores in the textile industry is a driving factor in the growing demand for more products to be produced. At Yazoo, we recognize just how important our process is in the textile industry as material will need to be wound onto a core.  Having the correct tools for your respective jobs is imperative to the success of your end-product and bottom line.  Our 100% recycled paper cores are a key component when it comes to rewinding material, which is a process that demands a consistent outside diameter to ensure the material winds evenly.  In our manufacturing process, we produce paper cores with the strength and consistency that provides the best ROI in your converting operations.  Yazoo’s paper cores are designed to fit your specifications for maximum strength to ensure optimum performance, reduce downtime and increase productivity.

We offer a wide variety of value-added, custom capabilities such as colored parchments, embossed outer wraps and core notching (just to name a few) that many of our customers in the textile industry are utilizing; which is helping them stay ahead of their competition. We also offer 110+ sizes of paper cores in-stock and ready to ship the same day if the order is placed by 4pm EST. Our speed to market and high-quality products are just two of the many reasons why we remain the industry leader for paper tubes and cores.

When your business demands accuracy, it’s Yazoo’s business to deliver it.  Get a quote for your upcoming project today!

con·vert – to alter the physical or chemical nature or properties of, especially in manufacturing.

In a world where we can have basically (almost) anything we want at our fingertips, we soon forget the process it takes to make a product. A product cannot amount to anything great until it has its starting point.  In the converting industry, that starting point is a core.

Converting is the essential part of the process of taking raw materials and creating a finished product. This kind of process is crucial for industries specializing in adhesives, tapes, labels, film, fabric, flexible packaging, etc.  Converting cores are manufactured with each application in mind.  The cores must maintain their durability during and after the process of adding a product on to them.  Yazoo’s paper cores are manufactured from plies of paper of various thicknesses to attain the customer’s strength and performance specifications.

Slitting and rewinding is a common process that Converters use in their operations. A machine takes a product, unwinds the material through a series of blades that slits the material into smaller widths then rewinds it onto a new roll.  Our 100% recycled paper cores have the strength and consistency converting companies require to optimize their operations.  As speed increases on rewinding machines, Yazoo’s cores are designed to protect their inside diameter and core length, greatly reducing cost from waste. Custom capabilities such as covers, liners, embossing, etc. add unique value to a customer’s manufacturing process, without damaging the product.

The next time you purchase something, take a few minutes to reflect on the processes it took to manufacture the product.  You might just appreciate it even more!
