Manufacturing – it’s what drives the world around us. Our plant workers are the backbone to our company. They work with pride all while manufacturing high-quality paper tubes and cores that our customers can depend on. Meet John Black – 1st Shift Winding Supervisor that has been with Yazoo for 32 years.
John likes to get a jump start on things so it’s no surprise that he’s an early riser at 3:45am. He hops in the shower to wake up, jams out to music while he packs his lunch and writes a note to his wife, makes a protein shake with a banana or fresh pineapple, kisses his wife and puppy goodbye and heads off to work on his short 2-minute commute.
Once he’s at work, he turns his computer on and brings up the production/recut dashboard to see what jobs came in from the night before. He takes the orders that were laid on his desk from 2nd shift and starts scheduling them into production. During scheduling, he will make the necessary adjustments needed in order to get the work out and over to the Recut department on time. Around 5:30am, he meets with a lead and floater to give them key points to focus on and listens to their feedback. John is a people-person and problem-solver so he likes to get others involved as much as possible. At 6am, the winders are fired up to begin the production day and John checks with his crew to see how their night was, all while assisting them with getting their machines ready. At 8am and 11am, you can find John running machines to cover his team going on break. Throughout the remainder of the day, he is communicating with the Shipping and Recut departments to ensure a good flow through the plant. He continues the day with checking on his winding lines to ensure that everything is running smoothly, receives paperwork from Order Prep and separates the orders between the front and back lines then schedules them. John thrives on being a part of a team-oriented company, knowing that he is helping manufacture the highest-quality of paper tubes and cores that industries across the nation can trust.
John credits his tenure at Yazoo to the people and the challenge of making everything flow together. Those two are the driving force behind his 32 years of service, which also include his previous positions of table person, winder operator and lead.
A few fun facts about John:
What would you do if you hit the lottery?: Make sure the older generation in his family as well as his kids are set up for life
Dream vacation: Travel to Ireland and hangout in a real Irish pub with locals
Hobbies: Spending time with his family and puppy, riding his motorcycle, watching his grandchildren play sports, hanging out with his friends while enjoying some beverages, shooting guns and lifting weights
Fun facts: John is a member of the Green Springs Fish and Game, NRA and HOG (Harley Davidson Owners Group)
Each day, millions of consumers examine and browse through a wide variety of products, which means companies are faced with the ultimate challenge of making their products stand out in a crowd of competition. When it comes to branding, it’s much more (and bigger) than just a logo. A key component to an effective marketing strategy is communicating your brand across all channels and creating an image that is positive, respected and well-known.
Branding is telling people who you are and what you do. A product’s packaging is a brand’s first impression. Think to yourself – what impression does your product make when it arrives to the customer? Will it motivate them to be a repeat buyer? Whatever your product may be, you’ll want to invest in packaging that is going to help sell your product and ultimately your company. If you’re sending your product in a blank shipping tube or winding your product on a plain core, you’re lessening the chance of visibility and recognition of your company.
Having a strong brand with emphasis on visual appearance means there is a positive impression of the company among consumers and they are likely to do business with you given the familiarity of using a company that they can trust. Being properly branded gives the impression of not only being professional but well-strategized industry experts.
Rather than your typical brown and round mailing tube or paper core, brands are opting to add a wow factor of eye-catching logos and designs to their packaging. Companies across the nation are relying on Yazoo’s custom capabilities such as in-line printing, custom labels or liners to increase the consumer appeal even further with branded packaging. This option helps give companies the competitive edge to reach their target audience and convince them to select their product over the competition. Your brand is guaranteed to stand out from the rest when you choose Yazoo’s high quality products coupled with our custom capabilities.
“A brand is a name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers.” (American Marketing Association)
Branding is personalizing a product by giving it a name to identify with. Just like humans, we are branded by our birth given names. People associate your name with everything; the good and the indifferent. Branding for companies is much like that and helps facilitate a company’s unique distinction from the competitor’s brand. It also creates an opportunity for brand loyalty with consumers who will essentially market your product for free by posting on social media about your brand and the packaging it arrived in.
Branding your company name or logo onto packaging is an integral component of the product inside. A vivid brand image on the packaging of a product develops a positive image and brings awareness as well as value to the company selling the product. Marketing is a game between brands which is why companies need to brand their logos, names, etc. onto packaging to create a lasting impression among their customers. Not only does it leave a lasting impact on them, branding of logos also helps consumers connect the product to your brand.
Our customers depend on Yazoo’s high-quality one and two-color in-line printing capabilities to set their brands a part from the competition. Keep in mind, the use of creative logos and designs with colors that stand out will help with promotional efforts of your company’s brand. When it comes to branding your company name and logo onto packaging, the ROI will be well worth it in the end.
