An energetic employee who leads by example, Layke embodies Yazoo’s mission, vision and values and strives each day to continue helping Yazoo be the leader in the paper tube and core industry.

Manufacturing has always been in Layke’s blood – he previously worked for a local manufacturer as a forklift driver, material handler and production operator. Eight years ago, Layke set out on his journey here at Yazoo Mills on 2nd shift as a Winding Operator. He then transferred to a 1st shift Winding Operator position then floater and was recently promoted to his most current role as a Lead in the Winding department.

Our Sales Department team is growing and we would like to give a warm welcome to our newest team member, Sandra Garcia. Sandra joined the Yazoo team back in November and is currently working in our Customer Service Department.  Prior to coming to Yazoo, she spent numerous years in Customer Service/Marketing for Hain Pure Protein.

Garcia’s current job duties within her department are to provide top-notch customer service both internally and externally. She listens to the customer’s needs and helps them find the perfect paper tube or core sizes that they are looking for without any hassle and always puts our customers first. When asked what made her make the switch and come to Yazoo, she replied “I was looking for advancement opportunities and love that Yazoo promotes from within.”  Among the many reasons she likes working for Yazoo, Garcia likes the friendly staff and family environment the most.

In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family, go to the gym and stay involved in her church. We are very glad to have Sandra a part of the Yazoo team and look forward to watching her excel in her position!

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Jesse Smith as our new Winding Supervisor at our New Oxford, PA manufacturing plant. Smith joined Yazoo six years ago, holding positions in our Winding Department as a nightshift operator, dayshift operator, and lead person – all of which led him to his new role within our company.

In his new position, Smith schedules orders for production, checks quality of products, and makes sure that the work, orders, and products are flowing smoothly through the plant. When asked what he likes best about working at Yazoo, he replied with “The stability, great benefits, and the opportunity to grow as an employee within the company are just a few of my favorite things about working at Yazoo.  I’m given the opportunity to better myself and add to my knowledge base for the better of the company.  It’s great working for an employer that truly puts their employees first.” Mr. Smith brings extensive knowledge and experience to his new role within Yazoo’s Winding Department.

In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his wife and two-year-old son, Cash, hunting and fishing are pretty high up on his list of outdoor activities as well as going to the races and smoking a variety of food in his smoker. We are excited to see where Smith will lead his department and the company in his new position.  Congratulations on your well-deserved promotion, Jesse.  We are glad to have you as a part of our team!

A great employee that chooses to stay with a company is hard to find but at Yazoo, we’ve managed to find over 115 employees who treat our business like their own.  As a company, we believe in promoting within and are extremely happy to see our employees accelerating into new roles at Yazoo.

Meet Brittany Boozel – she started at Yazoo in 2013 and has been here for almost five years, although it seems like a lot longer than that. Brittany started out as Yazoo’s receptionist for about six months and quickly made her way into Customer Service in our Sales Department.  Brittany has shown tremendous effort in our Sales Department which prompted her to being promoted into her current position as a Sales Associate.  Within her new role, Brittany is working with customers for quote requests, answering questions about products, prices, and lead times, as well as providing recommendations for customer solutions.

When asked what she likes most about Yazoo, she said “I like how I am able to gain new knowledge every day and put it to good use. I also enjoy working with great people who always put the customer first.”  In her spare time, Brittany like to spend time with her boyfriend, five-year-old son, and golden retriever, finding new ways to decorate her new house, as well as being outdoors as much as they can – fishing, hiking, and riding dirt bikes are just a few of their favorite activities to do as a family.

Congratulations on your promotion, Brittany. We are glad you are a part of the Yazoo team!

Being a manufacturer of paper tubes and cores for over 115 years, we have continued to grow our business and with growth comes opportunities for our employees. We believe in giving our employees the chance to continue growing with the company as they move up the ladder in their positions.

Kevin Hentz has been a long-term Yazoo employee for the last 30 years and is truly a jack of all trades, filled with a lot of knowledge. He started out as a Winding Operator on 1st shift then went to Winding Operator/Supervisor on 2nd shift to Supervisor/Co-Scheduler to his most recent promotion of Winding Manager on 1st shift.  Kevin’s new role as Winding Manager entails overseeing production/scheduling in Winding as well as complete scheduling for our Distribution Center, located in Hanover.

When asked what Kevin likes best about working at Yazoo, he responded with “the stability of the company has allowed and continues to allow me to work to my fullest potential and help the company continue to succeed.” Outside of work, Kevin enjoys spending time in the woods hunting for deer, finding new IPA beers that intrigue his taste buds, and relaxing at home.  Congratulations on your promotion, Kevin – it is well deserved!

With the New Year finally here, that means that high school seniors are looking forward to one thing the most – graduation. Every school has their own traditions but New Jersey presents a whole new meaning behind a graduation party as they have a pretty unique tradition that Yazoo was glad our paper tubes and cores became the solution they were looking for.

“Project Graduation” is a long standing Glen Ridge, NJ tradition that the seniors look forward to each year. The event was created as a “send off” party for the seniors and put into place to give the students a fun and safe place to be rather than running the risk of getting in trouble at other parties.  The planning takes place in the fall when the students pick the theme and start fundraising, designing, and finding the location for the event. It is organized and managed by parent volunteers who have graduating seniors.  The event is held in three separate parts on the same evening after graduation; dinner party, tent party, and then a pool party.  The seniors have an allotted amount of time to get from one party to the next and have to check in.  Toy Story was the theme for 2017 and Yazoo’s paper tubes and cores were used to make giant “tinker toys” for the design.

Michael Blue, a clothing designer by trade and volunteer, said “Last year was the second Project Graduation that I have designed and executed. It’s 9 months of work for all involved but it is all worth it when we watch the kids walk into the tent party.  A lot of tears and some very tired parents.  Thanks again for being the go-to place for some very specific materials to design with.”

Yazoo Mills is excited to welcome Chris Evans as our new Outside Sales Representative. Chris has a BA in Communications from Rowan University (formerly known as Glassboro State) in Glassboro, NJ and brings over 20 years of experience in the tube and core industry to our company.

Prior to joining Yazoo, Chris worked as an Account Representative for a multinational tube and core company. He says that the “family atmosphere, cleanliness of the facility, employee attitude, and opportunity to grow the business and inject my experience as well as the size of the company” all contributed to his decision to join Yazoo.

When asked what he likes most about working at Yazoo, he says he likes the “can do attitude” and common goals expressed by all employees. Chris continues with “The family atmosphere was reinforced by the welcoming manner that I received from everyone.  I am happy that I made the move and feel that I am in the right place and look forward to making a difference.”  He lives in Myerstown, PA with his girlfriend, Jennifer, and their four dogs.  He has three wonderful daughters, Brittany, Kirsten, and Samantha.  In his spare time, he likes to watch his daughter play soccer, fish, golf, and bonsai.

Chris brings great energy, enthusiasm, and experience to our team and we are more than happy to have him here. Welcome aboard!

At Yazoo Mills, we are more than just a manufacturer of paper tubes and cores.  We are heavily involved in sponsoring and making donations to local charities and events within our community where we all live and work.  We greatly believe in giving back to our community, especially knowing that our sponsorships provide valuable support in more ways than one.

Each year, Yazoo becomes a Mortgage Angel for Olivia’s House, a local grief and loss center for children. This month, our donation of $1,500 covers the cost of Olivia’s House’s monthly mortgage payment, allowing the organization to continue to keep its doors open and serve grieving children and their families at no-cost whatsoever.

We are a proud supporter of such a wonderful non-profit organization that continues striving to meet the needs of more children and families across the Central PA region.  Every single day, people are faced with grieving the loss of a loved one.  With the help from sponsorships like Yazoo’s, Olivia’s House is able to provide the necessary educational and peer support programs, trauma services, grief and loss resources, pre-death support, and professional mental health counseling referrals to help those in need.

In the Blasting and Mining industries, time is never on anyone’s side. The jobs are plentiful and need done as quickly as possible. Companies are looking for a quality blasting tube that will deter the possibility of layers of fractured rock collapsing the hole which in turn, ultimately stops the job. That’s where Yazoo fits in perfectly.

Our Water Guard and regular Blast Hole Casings are the most durable products blasting and mining companies trust the most. With over 350 tooling options available, our blast hole casings are custom made to fit any size blasting hole. Companies who need a casing that will last days in a hole, turn to Yazoo for their Water Guard Blast Hole Casings. Yazoo’s  Water Guard blast hole casings are made from specialized paperboard and adhesives to produce a product that is highly water resistant.

We have tested the Water Guard casings in very adverse environments including submersion in water for over five days, which provides flexibility at the job sites. The water resistant
blast hole casing did not delaminate or come unraveled during these trial periods.

Our blast hole casings are designed to fragment after blasting to ensure not to jam conveyors or drags. In fact, they are safer than using steel or PVC as they will not go skyward in one piece as a projectile. No matter what kind of blast hole casings you need, Yazoo Mills always offers:

Cancer.  The one word everyone knows and everyone hates.  It’s a disease that has become commonly known to everyone and anyone.  There are many different types of cancers and thousands upon thousands of people have been diagnosed, currently fighting, lost their battle, or are a survivor of cancer.

Breast Cancer, which is the most common type of cancer, can affect both men and women.  Heather Baker, a strong and determined mother, wife, friend, daughter, sister, and teacher became a victim to this disease.  After giving birth to her youngest son, Heather was diagnosed with a rare type of sub-breast cancer called triple negative, which only about 10-20%
of breast cancer victims are diagnosed with this type.  After fighting like a true champion, on March 8, 2010, Heather sadly lost her fight to cancer.

Heather’s love, dedication, passion, and strength have paved the way for a wonderful organization to be made in her honor, the Heather Baker Foundation.  This foundation brings hope
to local families affected by cancer and terminal illnesses.

HBF is able to help ease the financial burdens of families fighting cancer by the many fundraising events they hold each year.  Yazoo Mills is proud to support and donate $1,000 as a Silver Sponsor for the Fall Country Music Festival held on September 23, 2017 at AquaPhoenix Scientific, Inc. in Hanover, PA.  This is a 21 and older event that will feature live music, wine & hard cider tastings, dinner, and dancing.
